Why do I twitch so much?

I have involuntary twitches like all the time. They range from mild arm jerks to severe full body jolts. Most of the time the twitches cause my shoulder to jerk inwards toward my chin. It seems to get worse when I'm excited or nervous. I have them pretty frequently throughout the day. What is causing this?
